What makes Lodi ideal for growing Zinfandel? Everything!
Located 100 miles directly east of San Francisco along the Sacramento River Delta, at the base of the Sierra
Nevada mountain range, the Zinfandel vines benefit from the Mediterranean climate of warm, dry summers and cool
winters. It is the warm climate and light afternoon breezes of Lodi that allows the grapes to develop full,
ripe fruit flavors.
The Lodi appellation became officially recognized as an American Viticulture Area in 1986 and is composed of
seven sub-appellations, each with distinctive climates, geography, and soil types. Brazin is primarily sourced from
the Mokelumne River AVA which is known for its well draining, fine sandy soils due to its proximity to the Sacramento
Delta, and is home to many of the region's most famous Old Vine Zinfandel vineyards.
